Geometric phase for adiabatic evolutions of general quantum states.

چکیده
The concept of a geometric phase (Berry's phase) is generalized to the case of noneigenstates, which is applicable to both linear and nonlinear quantum systems. This is particularly important to nonlinear quantum systems, where, due to the lack of the superposition principle, the adiabatic evolution of a general state cannot be described in terms of eigenstates. For linear quantum systems, our new geometric phase reduces to a statistical average of Berry's phases. Our results are demonstrated with a nonlinear two-level model.

Effects of Entanglement on Off-diagonal Geometric Phases
The effect of entanglement on off-diagonal geometric phases is investigated in the paper. Two spin-1/2 particles in magnetic fields along the y direction are taken as an example. Three parameters (the purity of state r, the mixing angle θ and the relative phase β) are chosen to characterize the initial states. The nodal points at which the usual geometric phases disappear are calculated and ill...
متن کاملImplementation of Single-Qutrit Quantum Gates via Tripod Adiabatic Passage
We proposed and analyzed implementation of the single-qutrit quantum gates based on stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) between magnetic sublevels in atoms coupled by pulsed laser fields. This technique requires only the control of the relative phase of the driving fields but do not involve any dynamical or geometrical phases, which make it independent of the other interaction details: ...
متن کاملSpin-1/2 geometric phase driven by decohering quantum fields.
We calculate the geometric phase of a spin-1/2 system driven by one and two mode quantum fields subject to decoherence. Using the quantum jump approach, we show that the corrections to the phase in the no-jump trajectory are different when considering adiabatic and nonadiabatic evolutions. We discuss the implications of our results from both fundamental as well as quantum computational perspect...
متن کاملAdiabatic Berry Phase and Hannay Angle for Open Paths
We obtain the adiabatic Berry phase by defining a generalised gauge potential whose line integral gives the phase holonomy for arbitrary evolutions of parameters. Keeping in mind that for classical integrable systems it is hardly clear how to obtain open-path Hannay angle, we establish a connection between the open-path Berry phase and Hannay angle by using the parametrised coherent state appro...
متن کاملA New Class of Adiabatic Cyclic States and Geometric Phases for Non-Hermitian Hamiltonians
For a T -periodic non-Hermitian Hamiltonian H(t), we construct a class of adiabatic cyclic states of period T which are not eigenstates of the initial Hamiltonian H(0). We show that the corresponding adiabatic geometric phase angles are real and discuss their relationship with the conventional complex adiabatic geometric phase angles. We present a detailed calculation of the new adiabatic cycli...
